Layens Frame Top Bar

Top bar for use in assembling or repairing Layens frames. See the description on the product page for dimensions and additional details.

Top Bar Style

Flat top bars have a groove cut in the bottom as a straight guide for mounting foundation or a starter strip of wax, plastic or wood.
Tapered top bars are “V” shaped, providing a guide for straight comb building without foundation or a starter strip.

Top Bar Width

1-1/2″ is the typical width for Layens frames. 1-3/8″ may better match the bees’ natural comb spacing.

Wire Prep Status

By default, top bars are drilled with four 1/16″ holes for wiring. If you don’t plan to wire your frames you can order the bars without the holes.

Layens Frame End Bar × 2

End bar for use in assembling or repairing Layens frames. Price is per bar; 2 end bars are required per frame.  See the description on the product page for dimensions.

End Bar Width

End bar width should match the top bars used. End bars will be cut about 1/16″ narrower than indicated, to be slightly narrower than the top bar.

Bottom bar for use in assembling or repairing Layens frames.  See the description on the product page for dimensions.

Bottom Bar Width

3/4″ width is for 1-1/2″ Layens frames.
5/8″ width will fit better in 1-3/8″ frames, especially when using a standard jig for assembly.

    I can and have made my own frames but since I have limited tools it takes a long time and they are not precise. Ordering from Monty was so easy and they came all ready to put together. And I don’t have to drill the holes! Every piece was exactly correct and straight. Monty also made the side bars a custom length for me. Great customer service! Thanks Monty!!
