Are you getting started in beekeeping, or do you need to add capacity?  Here’s the Layens hive bundle that you need!

Start with a “twenty frame” insulated Layens horizontal hive

Add frames of your choosing (up to two styles). Frame capacity (without divider board): Twenty-one 1-1/2″ frames, twenty-three 1-3/8″ frames, or a combination of up to two sizes and styles. I recommend ten 1-3/8″ frames for brood and 12 1-1/2″ frames for honey.

Include an adjustable metal hive stand at a discount when included as part of this bundle.

These insulated hives are Suburban Sodbuster's favorite hive size and design. Each hive has 3 entrances and comes with a lid, divider board, corner hardware, and entrance disks.

Layens Frame - First Selection

13" x 16" Frame for a Layens beehive, assembled and pre-wired with straight vertical wire or cross-wire.

If you want a mix of options just add the desired quantity of each to the cart.  Quantity discounts will be applied in the cart.

Top Bar Style

Flat top bars have a groove cut in the bottom as a straight guide for mounting foundation or a starter strip of wax, plastic or wood.
Tapered top bars are “V” shaped, providing a guide for straight comb building without foundation or a starter strip.

Frame Wiring Style

Straight wire frames have 4 vertical wires in the frame.  These provide better structure and support for the comb for using a rotary extractor and can be used to mount wax foundation in the frame.
Cross-wire (X-Wire) frames have 4 wires which run at angles from top to bottom and cross at 3 points.  This is done to provide better vertical support for comb and reduce the incidence of comb collapse. 

Frame Width

1-1/2″ is the typical width for Layens frames. 1-3/8″ may better match the bees’ natural comb spacing.

Bundle discounts apply to frames and the hive stand when purchased as a part of this bundle.

The hive is a “Twenty Frame” hive, but can hold twenty-one 1-1/2″ frames or twenty-three 1-3/8″ frames (without divider board). You can choose up to 23 frames per bundle, in any combination of 2 styles (or just 1). I recommend ten 1-3/8″ frames (for brood), along with twelve 1-1/2″ frames (for honey), for a total of twenty-two frames.
