Public Speaking Engagement

Over the last 200 years beekeeping has changed from a bee-centric practice to an exercise in manipulating and managing every aspect of the hives.  As a natural beekeeper, following in the footsteps of “giants” who have rejected conventional practices in favor of trusting in the bees’ nature, I strive to practice more bee-centric methods and reduce manipulations.  I don’t use supplemental feeding of sugar syrup or pollen substitutes, don’t use chemical treatments, and use hives that are a more natural environment for the bees.

  • “The Fascinating Lives of Bees” – an exploration of how bees live and work together, highlighting bee facts to provide an understanding of how a colony functions.
  • “Moving Past Varroa with Natural Beekeeping” – A discussion of natural beekeeping principles and how keeping bees consistent with their nature, allowing natural selection, can result in stronger, more parasite- and disease-resistant bees.
  • “Keeping Bees in the Layens Horizontal Hive” – A demonstration of the Layens horizontal hive, discussion of the benefits for the bees and the beekeeper, and an overview of the hive management through the year.
